AMENDMENT DESCRIPTION:
Amendment authorizes the establishment of a competitive grant program, in a geographically diverse manner, for projects submitted for consideration by institutions of higher education to conduct research and development of renewable energy technologies.

AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
An amendment numbered 16 printed in House Report 110-300 to require the Secretary of Energy to establish a grant program for universities to research and develop renewable energy technologies. Priority is given to universities in low income and rural communities with proximity to trees dying of disease or insect infestation. The amendment also authorizes $25 million for the total program.
